What should we do about gun violence in America?

With the recent mass shootings, the most recent being the Highland Park shooting on July 4, there has been outrage about the prevalence of, and ease of obtaining, guns in America. However, proponents of guns will say that these incidents represent only the small, yet loud minority of gun owners. How much influence should the loud minority have over the majority, especially in a Democratic society? Oppression is a common topic amongst minorities who feel as though the majority, or even the "powerful" use their influence and impact to impose an unfair burden upon them. Diversity is seen as a way to promote equal representation and to cultivate more perspectives that lead to world-changing ideas. How much diversity is too much diversity?
